How to Quit Your Boss

I really have not quit many jobs so I admit others may have more experience. It’s me that always went first in layoffs and budget reductions. But here are some thoughts from Ruben Wetzelbeck Corporate Slut.

Let them know what will make you quit. And then if they go past your limits quit.

Use up sick days and vacation. Even if you are not planning on leaving you should do this.

Do give notice. And then call in sick. If they expect any value from you during the transition it is they that are dreaming. I ended up on a dreaded Blacklist for not giving notice. Oops. I found that out as another department looked to contract me after. Just because your current Boss does not want you that does not mean other managers do not. At least if you can fit into their budget.

Use HIPA and Family Emergency as excuse for taking time off and ignoring them as you add no value during transition.

Know the reference policy. I worked for a whole bunch of secretive type organizations that will only confirm employment and dates. No blow back for dusting those douche bags. Others you might want to have a conversation with. Do remember that HR is your Boss’s friend, not yours.

Document everything. Screen shots with your phone if using Corporate Assets.

Do not delete anything or forward to other accounts if you have not already. They are watching.

When they ask you to update your job description and provide documentation of your current workflows play along as best you can. Or binge watch Netflix. You know where it ends up.

When they call you later for your User Name and Password for access to all the recordings of the training that you developed you should probably say that is a Security Violation and hang up. Being a nice guy did not keep me off the Blacklist.

If HR calls you after three weeks and wants money back, delete the message and repeat this loudly:

Bwa Ha Ha Ha!

Be good to yourself. Don’t let the Bastages define you. The Best and the Brightest always move on from their management at some point for better or worse.
